Cottonwood Rd, Cabin Bench, Love Mesa Loop

"This route uses 3 FS roads to connect Delta-Nucla Road with Divide Rd. It is a section of the 141 mile Tabeguache Trail that connects Montrose to Grand Junction. Ridden as a loop with Divide and Delta-Nucla Rd, it makes a very nice 37 mile ride with ~2000 feet of elevation gain. Cottonwood Rd (FS 504) is very well maintained and largely flat 6 mile dirt road. It ends at Cabin Bench Rd (FS 501). Turn left on Cabin Bench Rd and ride for 5 miles, most of it climbing, to the intersection with Love Mesa Rd (FS 500). Turn left here and climb to Divide Road. Love Mesa Rd is an ATV trail and the roughest of the 3 roads, but still suitable for gravel bikes. I've ridden it comfortably on 40cc tires. "

Chukar Road

"Dirt and gravel road that starts off Peach Valley Road, continues to Elephant Skin Rd then turns north and dead ends at a trailhead for a hiking trail down to the Gunnison River. Surface is Bentonite clay and impassable when wet. It is a rougher surface than Peach Valley road with larger gravel, ruts and some rocks, but still fine (and super fun) for gravel bikes. The turnoff to Elephant Skin Rd is marked by BLM carsonite signs. "

"Very fun dirt and gravel road that starts off of Chukar Road in the Gunnison Gorge NCA and turns into 6530 Rd just outside Montrose. Like all roads in this area, it is Bentonite clay and impassable when wet. A rough road surface with larger gravel, ruts, and some small rocks but still fine for gravel bikes. Ridden this direction (N to S) there are great views of Montrose and the San Juans. "

Peach Valley Rd

"15 mile long dirt road in the adobe hills between Montrose and Delta. The soil is Bentonite clay and impassable when wet (do NOT attempt). This road is very exposed and hot in the summer, better in fall, winter and spring (when not wet). It sees heavier car and truck traffic with trailers on the weekend as this road accesses dirt bike/OHV trails in the Peach Valley/Gunnison Gorge recreation areas. Many other dirt roads connect with this road making numerous loops possible. Suitable for passenger cars and gravel bikes. "

Bostwick Park Rd

"Two miles up the climb up the Black Canyon National Park (CO 347) you will see this dirt road on the left. Ridden this direction it is mostly downhill through farms and ranches (watch for dogs) with open vistas and views of the San Juan mtns to the South. It then descends more steeply through adobe hills until it meets the paved Landfill Rd which takes you back to Montrose. Ridden the other direction from Landfill Rd it gives you a steep climb. The adobe side is impassable when wet! Suitable for gravel bikes. "

Nice views of canyons on this long ascent up the plateau. Some washboarding, but suitable for passenger cars and gravel bikes. "

Driveable in a passenger car and suitable for gravel bikes. "

P77 Rd: Cerro Summit to Cimarron Rd

"A dirt road with steep rollers that takes you from Cerro Summit east of Montrose up to Cimarron Road. You can continue up Cimarron Road to Silverjack Reservoir and, eventually, Owl Creek Pass. There is a parking lot at Cerro Summit. P77 is a bit rough with larger gravel and rough areas, tires 35mm or wider are recommended for gravel bikes. This road sees very little traffic, much less than Cimarron Road. "

58P Rd: Dallas Divide to Sawpit over Hastings Mesa

"Dirt/gravel road that goes over Hastings Mesa. The north end of the ride starts on the west side of Dallas Divide and is marked with a brown sign that indicates access to Last Dollar Road. After a few miles Last Dollar Road will be on the left but stay right on 58P to go to Sawpit. All of 58P is driveable in a passenger car and suitable for gravel bikes, but be careful on the steep switchbacks into Sawpit. Last Dollar Road is a rougher 4wd road with more climbing and ends in Telluride. "
